The program focuses on understanding the causes of crime, the structure of the criminal justice system as well as how this system operates with regard to both sentencing and innovative treatment in the 21st century.

The American Society of Criminology reflects the goals of our program in their mission statement which embraces scholarly, scientific and professional knowledge concerning the etiology, prevention, control and treatment of crime and delinquency.

Criminology

A criminology major can prepare for careers in law enforcement, corrections, homeland security, law, substance abuse counseling, juvenile justice, federal criminal justice administration, and more.

MSU Admission Requirements

Program Requirements

Students must complete 48 hours of sociology and criminology courses including the senior capstone, an internship and internship seminar as well as a research methods and data analysis course.

Students must maintain a 2.25 cumulative GPA in the major and must earn a C or better in all required course work for the major. Students must also take an exit exam for the major and be a part of a survey for graduates.
