The Master's Program in Clinical Psychology is accredited by the Masters in Psychology Accreditation Council (MPAC).

The Master's Program in Clinical Psychology is a 60-hour program.

Psychology Core (18 hours)
Students must complete all of the following:

PSY 612 – Advanced Experimental Design and Analysis I
PSY 613 – Advanced Experimental Design and Analysis II
PSY 621 – Advanced Physiological Psychology
PSY 634 – Learning Theory
PSY 654 – Seminar in Social Psychology
PSY 633 – Personality Theory OR
PSY 677 – Seminar in Developmental Research

Clinical Core (27 hours)
Students must complete all of the following:

PSY 601 – Legal, Ethical, and Multicultural Issues
PSY 657 – Intellectual Assessment
PSY 658 – Assessment of Children
PSY 661 – Psychopathology
PSY 662 – Assessment of Adults
PSY 663 – Marriage and Family Therapy
PSY 665 – Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy
PSY 673 – Psychotherapy I
PSY 674 – Psychotherapy II

Supervised Practical Experience (12 hours)
Students must complete all of the following:

PSY 672 – Practicum
PSY 678 – Internship

Elective (3 hours)
Students must complete one additional 600-level course

Final Oral Examination

After completing all course requirements, students must successfully complete an oral comprehensive examination administered by a committee of two clinical faculty members and one general-experimental faculty member.

 

Graduate assistantships (GAs) are available to students who are unconditionally admitted to the Master's Program in Clinical Psychology. GAs offer up to $10,000 per academic year and, for non-residents of Kentucky, a waiver of out-of-state tuition (i.e., non-residents pay only in-state tuition). NOTE: GAs are limited and may not be available to all students who are unconditionally admitted.

1. Completion of at least 18 hours in psychology, including a course in statistics and a course in experimental psychology

2. Undergraduate GPA of 3.5 or higher preferred, minimum of 3.0 required

3. Preferred GRE scores of 151 or higher for verbal reasoning and 148 or higher for quantitative reasoning

4. Adequate interpersonal skills and personal maturity as assessed by an interview (in person or via telephone) by the clinical psychology faculty

5. Three letters of recommendation, two of which are to be from faculty in the applicant's major department. The recommendation form can be downloaded here.

6. A statement of purpose by the applicant outlining his or her reasons for seeking graduate level training in Clinical Psychology
