Established in 1924 to provide Morehead Normal School with its own laboratory for teacher training, the Robert J. Breckinridge Training School moved into its newly constructed three-story home in 1930. Breckinridge provided a rare and unique education of students until it closed in 1982. The spirit of Breck lives on in the hearts of all who attended, and it was from this love that the Breckinridge School Society was established in June 1993.
The Society is a subsidiary of the MSU Foundation, Inc.
, and was established as an alumni organization for former Breck students. The focus of the Breckinridge School Society is to help serve Eastern Kentucky in the honorable name of the Breckinridge School. As Breck became a model of strong, innovative teaching and highly-motivated students during its years of service, the society seeks to assist MSU in reinforcing those same strengths in all of its academic programs.
