Mark Anthony Mulligan

Mark Anthony Mulligan grew up in a large family in the Chickasaw/Rubbertown area of West Louisville. Rubbertown is an industrial area, adjacent to the Ohio River, home to oil refineries and chemical factories. As is the case with many low income, urban neighborhoods, this area was cluttered with commercial signs and advertising billboards, which thoroughly captivated the young Mark Anthony.

After dropping out of high school, Mulligan lived on the streets, homeless for some time, and was in and out of mental health care facilities. Mulligan’s art began in earnest while he was on the streets and came to the attention of Louisville artists, Bruce Linn, Al Gorman and Chuck Swanson. Mark Anthony still lives and works on the streets of Louisville.
