Certification

Morehead State University Teacher Education students completing approved programs are eligible to apply for a Kentucky Statement of Eligibility.  The Eligibility Statement is required prior to employment in a school and participation in the Kentucky Teacher Internship Program.

Applications (TC-1 forms) are available by clicking here.  These forms are distributed during the final regularly scheduled MSU Clinical Practice Seminar.  Completed forms should be submitted to the Certification Office prior to completion of the teaching program.  The Certification Office is located at 601N Ginger Hall.

In order to adhere to Kentucky State Regulations, students must meet certification requirements in effect at the time of application.  Advisors will be kept up to date with changes in state policies affecting University Regulations.  However, it is the student's responsibility to stay abreast of current requirements.  Presently, certification requirements include successful completion of the PRAXIS Specialty Tests and the appropriate PRAXIS Principals of Learning and Teaching Test.  Registration information for specialty tests, testing dates, test preparation materials, and fee structures may be secured from the MSU Testing Center, 501 Ginger Hall.  (First time certifications are free to Kentucky applicants.)

Note: Recommendation for certifications is limited to those students completing an approved preparation program at Morehead State University.

A teaching certificate is valid only in the state for which it is issued.  Certification and testing requirements are subject to frequent changes.  Candidates who plan to pursue certification in another state should contact that state's certification/licensure office.  Links to state websites as well as information regarding certification reciprocity amongst states may be found at http://nasdtec.org/.

For assistance in completing forms required for certification in other states, contact the MSU Certification Office.
