Bio“Consider what you have here: opportunities to get paid to learn how to design and operate satellites or study supernova explosions, a high-tech degree that you cannot get at UK or UofL, and preparation for a career in a truly exciting field.”
Originally from Rome, Italy, Dr. Antonino Carnevali joined MSU in 2001. Prior to his present position at the Space Science Center, Dr. Carnevali chaired the MSU Department of Physical Sciences. As a researcher, he served on the scientific staff of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Plasma Physics Laboratory, and as a visiting scientist for three summers at the Auburn University Fusion Energy Laboratory. Dr. Carnevali has authored or co-authored 23 scientific publications and delivered conference presentations on fusion energy, plasma physics, fluid dynamics, and science education. During his 22 years of teaching, he has created a number of innovative courses and laboratory activities for entering college students. Because of his interest in motivating and preparing students at the pre-college level as well, he has also interacted extensively with teachers and students in the public schools. For instance, he has worked with teachers in their classrooms as a "Professor in the Schools" for four years, and he has recently created the "Interactive Classroom Demonstrations: Real-World Applications of Algebra" program, which he has taken to 42 high school math classes.
