Bio

Ruth Huffman is a graduate of Ashland Community College with an Associate Degree of Applied Science in Nursing and University of Phoenix where she graduated with a Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing. Ruth began her nursing career as a staff nurse in the intensive care unit at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital, Ashland, KY and she later worked in their emergency department. Ruth has also worked in nursing areas in surgery, clinic, provider’s office, camp nurse and traveling injection training nurse.
Community service figures largely in Ruth’s career as she serves as a Red Cross nurse and co-directed the first ever full scale disaster drill in her home county of Carter County , KY. A mission trip to Mexico, along with another nurse, a student nurse and local physician, yielded care for many in a make-shift clinic.

Ruth began her academic career at Morehead State University in the Nursing Department as the Lab Coordinator for the Associate Degree Nursing Program. The position changed to Multimedia Coordinator and has evolved even further as she now serves as Simulation Specialist for nursing in the Center for Health and Education Research (CHER) building.

Ruth works with the Patient Care Lab Coordinator, faculty and students in the Simulation Thru Advanced Technology (STAT) Center. Work in the STAT Center focuses on immersing students in scenarios using the latest in patient simulators, facilitating an environment as true to life as possible. In the STAT Center, students are provided opportunities to make the types of decisions and perform functions required of nurses upon graduation and registered nurse board passage.
Down time finds Ruth at home in Grayson, KY with her husband and two dogs. Cooking and reading are favorite pastimes. She also enjoys attending local events like concerts, theater, football games and festivals.
