Christina Hartke-Towell is presently directing the MSU Orchestra and teaching lessons in applied violin and viola at Morehead State University. She holds a bachelors degree in Music Education with an emphasis on string pedagogy from Indiana University and has completed graduate courses in music, music education and string pedagogy at the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati (CCM). While at CCM, Ms. Hartke-Towell assisted with and conducted the Cincinnati Junior Strings. She has also been teaching private string lessons and ensembles since 1985.Ms. Hartke-Towell is also teaching privately in the Morehead area. She has taught general music in schools in Kentucky and Indiana. Before moving to Morehead she taught strings and orchestras in public and private schools in Bloomington, Indiana. She also established the first Junior High Orchestra program in Greene County, Indiana.As a violinist Ms Hartke-Towell has a wide performing experience from Symphony Orchestras to Jazz Bands, and Rock Bands. She has performed Leonard Bernstein's Mass under the composer's baton with the Indiana University Summer Orchestra at Tanglewood. She also has recorded for National Public Radio with the Indiana University Orchestra performing Brahm's Requiem and a performance of Leonard Bernstein's Mass. She has performed with the Lexington Philharmonic, The Owensboro Symphony, Terre Haute Symphony, Richmond Symphony, and Evansville Symphony Orchestra. She has also played with the Indiana University Jazz Ensemble, the Canada Winter Games Jazz Quintet, and Jif and the Choosy Mothers.
