Dance

As a student apart of our dance program, you will develop the imaginative, critical and technical skills essential to career success. This program provides a foundation for careers in the following:

  • Administrative professional for dance companies
  • Artistic director
  • Choreographer
  • Critic
  • Educator
  • Professional dancer
  • Rehearsal director

You will find our alumni continuing their education by pursuing bachelor’s or master’s degrees in dance, participating in the American Dance Festival and performing with professional dance companies.

The dance minor, designed for both technical and non-technical dancers, will give you a strong foundation in dance technique, history, composition and performance. You will learn a wide array of popular dance forms, including modern, tap, jazz, ballet, improvisation, African, hip-hop and more. Learn more about our Academic Programs.

Professional and Performance Development

Through MSU’s Artist-in-Residency program, instructors from professional dance companies are brought to the university to conduct workshops and master classes for you to participate in.

You will also be able to participate in dance ensembles and choreography sessions offered throughout each semester. Learn more information about upcoming Theatre and Dance Productions.

Music Education Major, Waddy, KY"Morehead State is like a second home to me. The people are friendly and welcoming.  The teachers are great at helping you when you're in need and they know their stuff! The program is one of the best in the state but they don't flaunt it, they own it and keep working hard and I love that!"
