Department of Earth and Space Science
The Department of Earth and Space Science is a multi-disciplinary unit encompassing degree programs in astrophysics, geology, and space science and offering opportunities for undergraduate students to participate in both fundamental research in astronomy and areas of geology, and applied research in space systems development. The Department is a division within the College of Science and Technology and includes the Space Science Center which encompasses the 21 Meter space tracking antenna and the Space Science Center Building which houses laboratory facilities.
The mission of this diverse department is multifaceted: we strive to explore and study physical aspects of the Universe and the Earth and to develop technologies to support space exploration, with a goal of disseminating the knowledge gained via scientific venues as well as regional engagement through outreach and education.
We aspire to become a nationally recognized center for basic and applied research in Earth and Space Science, and an internationally recognized developer of space-related technologies. We produce highly skilled scientists, engineers, and educators to support these critically important areas.
