Morehead State University is a public state institution accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). MSU is ranked among the top public universities in the South by U.S. News & World Report and has Kentucky’s best computer-student ratio in its computer laboratories. MSU offers one of the five space science degrees in the nation. Our graduates are accepted into professional programs including medical, dental, law, and veterinary schools at rates above state and national averages. Morehead State University offers 78 undergraduate degree programs in 20 academic departments, including 12 pre-professional programs in four colleges -- Caudill College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, College of Business and Public Affairs, College of Education, and College of Science and Technology. There are 51 graduate degree programs. The education specialist degree in five specialty areas is also offered. MSU offers one doctoral program in education.Recent major program developments include the Space Science Center which supports research and space science academic program in partnership with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA); the Center for Health, Education and Research, a partnership with St. Claire Regional Medical Center (Morehead, KY) and the University of Kentucky (Lexington, KY), which provides access to health care in the surrounding area and provides rural health care training and education; and the Equine Health Education Center at the Derrickson Agricultural Complex. MSU is also opening a new world-class Student Recreation Center. MSU is a charter member of the Ohio Valley Conference (NCAA Division I) and sponsors 17 sports for men and women. The football Eagles complete in the Pioneer Football League. Our cheerleading squads have won more than 20 national championships. The University currently has an annual operating budget of $122.5 million. Additionally, grants and contracts from external sources for research, service and academic/student support projects generate more than $15 million each year. Annual private donations to the University, through the MSU Foundation, Inc., average $3 million annually. The University has awarded more than 55,000 degrees and has more than 1,100 full-time employees. Currently, Morehead State University serves 9,000 students from 100 Kentucky counties, 45 states, and 24 foreign countries at its main campus, five regional campuses, and via the Internet. MSU’s main campus is located in Morehead, Kentucky, adjacent to the Daniel Boone National Forest. It is conveniently located approximately 65 miles east of Lexington, 120 miles east of Louisville, and 150 miles southeast of Cincinnati, Ohio. The Lexington Bluegrass Airport is an hour and a half away from the city of Morehead. To assist in the proper placement of students in the areas of English, mathematics, science, and social studies, all entering freshmen must take the ACT exam upon arrival unless valid ACT or SAT scores are on file. Students transferring to the University from an accredited institution of higher education in the United States must submit the following:
Transfer of Credits: Credits earned from international institutions will be considered only after they have been evaluated by World Education Services, Inc.; Web site: www.wes.org; mailing address: P.O. It is the student's responsibility to contact the agency and pay all service fees.Entering transfer students with fewer than 24 semester hours of credit completed may be asked to take the ACT exam for the reasons stated above.
MSU offers international student scholarships to qualified international students. To be eligible, students must be unconditionally admitted as an international undergraduate student with a minimum composite score of 20 on the ACT or 950 (math plus verbal) on the SAT or be unconditionally admitted as an international graduate student. Students must maintain satisfactory academic progress for renewal. This scholarship cannot be awarded in addition to the non-resident tuition scholarship or a graduate assistantship. Recipients pay only 1.5 times the instate tuition rate instead of the out-of-state rate.Application deadline: Fall semester: July 30; Spring semester: December 10.
