Out-of-State Scholarships

  • Awards based on academic criteria. Final GPA and official ACT scores may affect awards. Awards, with the exception of the Alumni Award, may not be combined. Total financial aid cannot exceed cost of attendance. Subsequent changes do not apply to the terms and conditions of an award.
  • College credit hours completed prior to high school graduation, including Eagle Scholars courses, do not affect scholarship eligibility.

Alumni Scholarship

Value: $1,000/year (renewable) *Requires on campus housing for at least four semesters. If approved to commute or to live off campus, the scholarship will be reduced by 50%.
Minimum Academic Requirements: Unconditional admission 
Eligibility Criteria: New incoming freshman who is a child, grandchild or spouse of an active MSU alumnus.

Black Achiever Scholarship

Value: Full tuition (renewable) *Requires on-campus housing for at least four semesters. If approved to commute or to live off campus, the scholarship will be reduced by 50%.
Minimum Academic Requirements: Unconditional admission
Eligibility Criteria: New incoming freshman, completion of the Black Achievers Program in Cincinnati, Ohio
Application: Submit a completed admission application packet including admission application, transcripts, test scores and a completed Diversity Scholar Application Packet with recommendation from the
Program’s Senior Cluster Leader and copy of your Black Achievers Scholarship packet or portfolio by the application deadline on Dec. 1.
 

Honors Scholarship

Value: Full tuition, on-campus housing allowance (up to the cost of the Honors Hall), $1,000 book credit at the University Store, a designated meal plan, and $1,500 one-time education abroad allowance (renewable).
Minimum Academic Requirements: Competitive 
Eligibility Criteria: Selection based on academic achievement, including GPA, test scores, challenging coursework, leadership and service experiences, awards and recognitions, essay, sample of work and
interview
Application: Submit a completed Honors Application packet including admission application, transcripts and test scores, by the application deadline on Dec. 1.

 

Non-Resident Merit Scholarship - Tier 1

Value: $10,000/year (renewable) *Requires on-campus housing for at least four semesters. If approved to commute or to live off campus, the scholarship will be reduced by 30%.
Minimum Academic Requirements: 3.75 unweighted high school GPA and 28 ACT composite
Eligibility Criteria: New incoming freshman, non-Kentucky resident
Application: Submit a completed admission application packet including admission application, transcripts and test scores, by the priority application deadline of March 15.
 

Non-Resident Merit Scholarship - Tier 2

Value: $7,000/year (renewable) *Requires on-campus housing for at least four semesters. If approved to commute or to live off campus, the scholarship will be reduced by 30%. 
Minimum Academic Requirements: 3.50 unweighted high school GPA and 24 ACT composite
Eligibility Criteria: New incoming freshman, non-Kentucky resident
Application: Submit a completed admission application packet including admission application, transcripts and test scores, by the priority application deadline of March 15.
 

Non-Resident Merit Scholarship - Tier 3

Value: $4,500/year (renewable) *Requires on-campus housing for at least four semesters. If approved to commute or to live off campus, the scholarship will be reduced by 50%.
Minimum Academic Requirements: 3.00 unweighted high school GPA and 21 ACT composite
Eligibility Criteria: New incoming freshman, non-Kentucky resident
Application: Submit a completed admission application packet including admission application, transcripts and test scores, by the priority application deadline of March 15.
 

Reciprocity Merit Scholarship - Tier 1

Value: $7,000/year (renewable) *Requires on-campus housing for at least four semesters. If approved to commute or to live off campus, the scholarship will be reduced by 30%.
Minimum Academic Requirements: 3.75 unweighted high school GPA and 28 ACT composite
Eligibility Criteria: New incoming freshman, non-Kentucky resident (reciprocity county list below)
Application: Submit a completed admission application packet including admission application, transcripts and test scores, by the priority application deadline of March 15.
 

Reciprocity Merit Scholarship - Tier 2

Value: $4,000/year (renewable) *Requires on-campus housing for at least four semesters. If approved to commute or to live off campus, the scholarship will be reduced by 30%.

Reciprocity Merit Scholarship - Tier 3

Value: $1,500/year (renewable) *Requires on-campus housing for at least four semesters. If approved to commute or to live off campus, the scholarship will be reduced by 50%.
Minimum Academic Requirements: 3.00 unweighted high school GPA and 21 ACT composite
Eligibility Criteria: New incoming freshman, non-Kentucky resident (reciprocity county list on back)

Notes

  • Students residing in reciprocity counties automatically qualify for in-state tuition. Reciprocity counties in Ohio include: Adams, Athens, Brown, Gallia, Jackson, Lawrence, Meigs, Pike, Scioto and Vinton.
  • The total duration of renewable scholarships is eight semesters, as long as the renewal criteria is met. Criteria for renewal will be listed in the official award letter.
  • If you are receiving the Non-Resident Merit Scholarship, and are being charged instate tuition because all of your courses are online or all your courses are at one of our regional
    campuses, your scholarship will be reduced as follows: Tier 1 = $7,000; Tier 2 = $4,000; Tier 3 = $1,500.
