Skyler Toy receives Stay the Course Grant from Wiley publishing company

Skyler Toy and her daughterMorehead State graduate Skyler Toy from Salt Lick is the recipient of a Wiley Stay the Course Grant.

Toy was one of 200 students nationwide to receive the grant. Wiley's grant program provided $100,000 in funding to support student persistence in completing college degrees. She earned a bachelor's degree in accounting at MSU this past May.

Faculty who use Wiley's digital resources in their courses nominated one student for a chance to win. Dr. Stephen Brigham, assistant professor of accounting, nominated Toy for the $500 grant in March.

"The grants were intended to help meet some of the financial difficulties of vulnerable students," Brigham said. "Skyler's courageous persistence, positive attitude, and work ethic make her a wonderful role model for all students to achieve success."

Toy said the grant was extremely beneficial in helping her achieve her dream of earning a degree.

"Being a recipient of the Wiley Stay the Course Grant is much more than just an award to me," she said. "Wiley has assisted me in being able to achieve my lifelong educational goals that I never thought were possible. Being a full-time concurrent young mother and college student has been incredibly difficult; therefore, I'm grateful that Wiley is able to help support not only me but also others like me in chasing our dreams."

Wiley is an educational publishing company producing online scientific, technical, medical and scholarly journals, books, and other digital content.
