SACSCC Accreditation
MSU's education programs are accredited by the state and nationally to ensure quality teacher preparation.
Kentucky Accreditation
MSU's education programs are accredited by the Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board (EPSB).
A review of all teacher preparation programs (certifications and endorsements) is conducted periodically by the EPSB. The approval allows the provider to recommend successful graduates (i.e., meet program, college, university, and state requirements) for licensure, certification, or endorsement to the EPSB. The latest review is ongoing, based on reports submitted by each program in October 2017. The results of those reviews will be posted when available.
NATIONAL ACCREDITATION
Accreditation is the next level of achievement that the College of Education (to include all programs, units, etc., within and outside the college) can earn after state approval of individual programs is achieved, as mentioned above. The entire collection of programs and processes is referred to - accreditation language - as the Educator Preparation Provider (EPP). Locally you may also know this as the Teacher Education Program (TEP), among other names. Whereas EPSB is the regulating body for specific programs, the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) reviews and approves the EPP as one entire entity.
ACCREDITATION MATTERS
Accrediting agencies serve as third-party entities to ensure that institutions and academic programs meet standards for program quality. They monitor institutional commitment to continuous improvement and ensure that institutions of higher education meet acceptable levels of quality. Our process falls under the purview of the U.S. Department of Education. Moreover, according to the CAEP, "Educator accreditation is a seal of approval that assures quality in educator preparation. Accreditation makes sure that educator programs prepare new teachers to know their subjects and their students and have the clinical training that allows them to enter the classroom ready to teach effectively."
ACCREDITATION AND SACSCOC
Morehead State University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS-COC). Program Review and EPP Accreditation, like other variables from across the campus community, figure into the formula used by SACS to grant accreditation to MSU at large.
