EMPTY BOWLS
Many students and faculty participate each year in the Empty Bowls project to benefit area sites providing food to those in need.
BLUEGRASS DISCOVERY ACADEMY
Art education faculty and students share their time, skills and creativity by teaching art to students enrolled in the Bluegrass Discovery Academy, a Rowan County Alternative School. THE EASTERN KENTUCKY ARTS PROJECT
The Eastern Kentucky Arts Project (EKAP) affords students the opportunity to help strengthen Eastern Kentucky communities by providing information on the region’s arts-related resources. Students engage in a range of service learning activities, such as interviewing regional artists, creating graphic design materials for non-profits related to the arts, researching regional art history, and designing and helping maintain the EKAP website and EKAP Facebook page. HALDEMAN COMMUNITY CENTER AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM
Art & Design faculty and students collaborate with colleagues in dance, theater, music and honors to staff the Haldeman Community Center After School Program, an enrichment initiative that helps strengthen academic achievement and personal growth through the arts. MOUNT STERLING MSU JURIED ART STUDENT EXHIBITION
Art & Design faculty and students have collaborated for fourteen years with the Montgomery County Council for the Arts to present the Mt. Sterling MSU Juried Art Student Exhibition. Held in the Gateway Center for the Arts Gallery, the exhibition features two and three-dimensional art and design created by students at all class levels. Cay Lane, Executive Director of the MCCA says, “This exhibit has evolved into a wonderful display of the talent of MSU Art students and has consistently had one of our largest crowds.” For more information contact Associate Professor of Art Dongfeng Li at 606-783-2764.
SUMMER ARTS ACADEMY
Faculty participate in the MSU Summer Arts Academy, a week-long residence opportunity for high school students to experience music, theatre, dance, art and design and creative writing instruction on campus.
All programs in the Department of Art and Design are accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD).
