Public Show Schedule

Public Planetarium Feature Shows

The planetarium offers public shows on second and fourth Saturdays at 11 a.m. (full-dome planetarium movie), 1:30 p.m. (full-dome planetarium movie), and 6:30 p.m. (laser show), throughout the year on a first-come, first-served basis. Tickets can be purchased at the door by cash or check. We cannot accept credit cards.

A Star Theater show includes a special feature from our extensive program library and a live tour of the night sky under our full dome. Our shows include full dome planetarium features on various science topics and laser shows. As weather permits (the sky is clear and the temperature is warm enough), we offer opportunities to view the night sky with telescopes as it gets dark on our public show Saturdays. Our crew are MSU undergraduate students, so we occasionally modify our schedule during the final exam or break periods.

During the summer of 2023, we plan to offer "Hands-on Science Experiments" on public show days, our mini-exploratorium, at noon in the rotunda of the space science center, between the earlier and later shows. We charge $4 per person for the science activity. Activities may include:

  • Making rockets that fly and payloads that survive launch and landing.
  • Making rainbows.
  • Separating ink and dye colors.

Activities are based on science activity workshops for students, parents, and teachers at Goddard Space Flight Center and the World of Science. You will have something you made to take home when you leave. All these activities utilize readily available materials so that you can continue the fun at home! No qualifications are needed, and anyone five or over can participate. You can also schedule a "hands-on science" activity for your school, family, or community group.

All our public shows are appropriate for all ages, and all are welcome. Our earliest Saturday shows are specially designed for younger children.
