Information for Employees

Facilities Management Cleaning & Disinfection

  • Classrooms and common spaces are cleaned every weekday. As an extra precautionary measure, faculty and students are encouraged to use disinfecting wipes on personal use areas in classrooms.
  • Offices are not cleaned and disinfected on a routine basis by Facilities Management. Office occupants are encouraged to frequently use disinfecting wipes and other cleaning products as provided by Facilities Management to clean and disinfect their personal offices and common spaces within their office suites.

Classroom Safety

  • Wearing a mask and social distancing remain effective at mitigating the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
  • Masks are optional in most campus locations, including classrooms and labs. Each student and employee may make their own individual decision as to whether they wear a mask or not (masks are still required in the MSU Counseling & Health Services in Allie Young Hall). Faculty and staff may request that students and other employees visiting their personal office be required to wear a mask while meeting in their office.

Employee COVID-19 Notification Process

  • Vice Presidents/President Direct Reports (VP/PDR) lead the Employee COVID-19 Healthy at Work response.
  • If an employee receives notification that they have tested positive for COVID-19, or if they are notified that they should self-isolate or self-quarantine, then the employee should contact their supervisor and VP/PDR immediately.
  • Supervisors who learn that an employee has been notified that they have tested positive for COVID-19 will send the employee home and contact their VP/PDR immediately. If a supervisor learns that an employee is a close contact exposure to COVID-19, and the employee is not fully vaccinated, then the supervisor should contact their VP/PDR for further instructions.
  • The VP/PDR will activate the Employee COVID-19 notification and response process.

Covid Support Team & MSU Rapid Response Team

  • MSU has transitioned away from active COVID-19 response. MSU no longer sources a COVID Support Team or Rapid Response Team. The COVID Help Line and COVID-19@moreheadstate.edu are no longer monitored for COVID response.

Student Absence Information for Faculty

  • The Office of the Dean of Students (ODOS) will only provide “COVID-19 excused absences” for students who are diagnosed with COVID-19 though a CLIA-approved lab test (PCR or Antigen test administered by a test site or healthcare provider). All other circumstances will be governed by UAR 131 Excused Absence Policy. In order for a student to receive an excused absence because of a positive CLIA-approved lab test result, the student must complete the “COVID-19 Self-Reporting Form” found on the “Healthy at MSU” webpage:
    • The ODOS will notify the student’s instructors that the student is excused for up to 10 days.
    • The student may return to class after 5 days if symptom-free and if a mask is worn. The ODOS will not send a “cleared to return to class” notification.
    • If the student must extend isolation past 10 days, then the student must provide medical documentation (e.g. doctor’s note or health department notice) to the ODOS using the email address of COVID-19@moreheadstate.edu.
  • If a student is sick or has COVID-19 symptoms, follow UAR 131.
  • If a student tests positive for COVID-19 using a “Home” test, follow UAR 131. Instructors retain the discretion to accept the results of a “Home” test to excuse a student from class. However, the student must have documentation of medical treatment (e.g. doctor’s note) in order to receive an excused absence from the ODOS.
  • If a student is recommended to quarantine because they are an unvaccinated/under-vaccinated student having Close Contact with someone diagnosed with COVID-19, follow UAR 131. Instructors retain the discretion to excuse a student from class for quarantine. However, the student must have documentation of medical treatment (e.g. doctor’s note) in order to receive an excused absence from the ODOS.
