Affording College

At MSU, we believe in making our excellent experience affordable. In fact, 94% of our undergraduate students receive some type of financial aid (including scholarships and student employment).

Your first step is to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and have your results sent to MSU (FAFSA Code: 001976). These results will help us determine whether you qualify for need-based financial aid, which includes grants, loans and federal student employment/work study.

Applying for financial aid can be confusing. That’s why we have helpful financial aid counselors available to make this process as stress-free as possible. To make an appointment to talk with an MSU financial aid counselor, email or visit Financial Aid for more information.

Complete your FAFSA as soon as possible at (available Oct. 1).

MSU is moving in parallel with public health recommendations as quickly as we are able in support of the Commonwealth's overall efforts to mitigate the risk and spread of the novel coronavirus.

The Office of Financial Aid is open to walk-in traffic and in-person appointments. We are asking students to comply with university policies by wearing a mask and maintaining social distancing. Students may also contact our office by email at or by phone at 606-783-2011.
