Morehead State offers bachelor degrees in both Spanish and Spanish with teacher certification (P-12), as well as minors in Spanish and French.

Communication, Media and Languages will provide you with rigorous training in language and culture. You will have opportunities to engage in your chosen culture and language of study through history, literature and film both on campus and in the community. Our language programs are supplemented by several exciting overseas study opportunities including studies in France, Spain, Germany, China and more. You may choose to study overseas for as little as two weeks, a month, a full semester, or even a year. Many of our students qualify for financial aid while away that can be used to pay for tuition and expenses abroad.

Our students participate in activities and opportunities that provide real-world, hands-on experience, including:

  • Tutoring in local schools.
  • Service learning courses and activities using Spanish.
  • Translation projects in a variety of for-profit and nonprofit settings.
  • Internships using knowledge of a second language.

These programs are available on the Morehead campus.

Program Requirements

The first step is admission to Morehead State University, see MSU's admission requirements.

We want you to have the opportunity to progress as rapidly as possible in your chosen language. To this end, we strongly recommended that you complete a placement examination in Spanish or French if you have studied the language previously and intend to continue your studies at MSU. For information about placement tests, please speak with anyone who teaches languages, or with Dr. Philip Krummrich ( or 783-2726).

Note: Those who begin in a more advanced class will have the opportunity to earn credit by examination for the classes they do not need to take.

For course lists and program requirements please refer to the undergraduate catalog.

Career Opportunities

Graduates of our programs are prepared to enter careers in interpretation and translation. You will find employment opportunities in industries where knowledge of a second language is beneficial, including business and commerce, government work, teaching, tourism, social services and more.

MSU's Career Services offers career planning, interview and resume preparation assistance, internship placement, and services to help you find a job after you graduate.
