Mason returned to MSU in 2000 as a Technology Consultant for the Department of Information Technology while pursuing his master’s degree. He then moved to the Department of Industrial Technology and Education in 2002 to begin teaching where he has currently served for 18 years teaching courses in Manufacturing, Design, OSHA Safety and Continuous Improvement and Lean Techniques. 
Mason has held University Liaison, Secretary, Vice-Chair and Chairman positions with the SME 154 chapter in Lexington, KY during his time at MSU. He mentored the first NAIT robotics team to competition for two years and held a committee position with Recruitment and Retention through the department.
Prior to returning to MSU, Mason worked in industry as a Supervisor, Quality Control Technician, and Robotics/Manufacturing Engineer for the automotive industry for Arvin North American Automotive (Exhaust Systems) and Toyo Seat (Seat Frame components). He also served time as a Maintenance Engineering Trainer for Mazak Corporation USA (CNC Machine and Controls).
