The College of Education at Morehead State University, in conjunction with the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS), provides access to teacher education programs for students in the Ashland, Prestonsburg, and Hazard areas.
Partnering with Ashland Community College and Big Sandy Community College, MSU students in the Ashland and Prestonsburg areas can complete the following teaching certification programs at their respective centers:
- Elementary Education, grades P-5
- Middle Grades Education, grades 5-9 for two subject areas from English, math, science, and social studies (*please note: for middle grades science students will be required to travel to Morehead to complete the science methods course – SCI 491/491L – during the fall semester prior to student teaching)
- Dual Teaching Certification for Special Education, Learning and Behavior Disorders (P-12) and either Elementary Education (P-5) or one area of Middle Grades Education (5-9, English, math, science or social studies)
- Dual Teaching Certification for Special Education, Moderate to Severe Disabilities (P-12) and either Elementary Education (P-5) or one area of Middle Grades Education (5-9, English, math, science or social studies). MSD courses (EDSP 370, 371, 373, 374, and 375) will be offered online in a hybrid format which will require the students to come to Main campus only two or three times during the semester - the semester rotation for the courses can be found below.
In conjunction with Hazard Community College and the University Center of the Mountains, students located in the Hazard area can pursue middle grades education, grades 5-9, for two subject areas from English, math, science, and social studies *note: for middle grades science students will be required to travel to Morehead to complete the science methods course – SCI 491/491L – during the fall semester prior to student teaching.
