  •  19th Annual MSU Blue & Gold Steer and Heifer Show-Saturday, April 19 at the Derrickson Agricultural Complex 

Sponsored by MSU's FFA, showmanship events begin at 8 a.m. Prizes will be awarded in three age divisions, and all participants must be under 21 years old. Division winners will compete for an overall award. The entry fee is $5 per showman. The heifer show will begin at approximately 1:30 p.m. with the steer show immediately following. The top three finishers will earn cash premiums. There is an entry fee of $25 per animal, and bedding will not be provided at the facility.   • Agricultural Sciences Senior Night 

The Department of Agricultural Sciences will host Senior Night Wednesday, April 23 in the University farm arena classrooms at the Derrickson Agricultural Complex. Agricultural Sciences seniors and their families may attend the event free of charge. Admission for underclassmen is $2. Call 606-783-2662 for more information, or email AGSI@moreheadstate.edu.

  • Spring Bedding and Vegetable Plant Sale Dates & Times-Derrickson Agricultural Complex 

A selection of annual and perennial flowers and plants, hanging baskets, mixed planters and vegetable plants will be available for purchase on the following dates:

  • Thursday, April 24, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Friday, April 25, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Saturday, April 26, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Thursday, May 1, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Friday, May 2, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

All 3" potted annuals=$1 each

All potted vegetable plants=$1.50 each or 10 for $12

All 3" potted herb plants=$2.50 each

 

  • Barrel & Pole Open Horse Show

The Collegiate FFA will sponsor the Barrel and Pole Open Horse Show Saturday and Sunday, May 3-4 at the Derrickson Agricultural Complex. Call 606-783-2662 for more information, or email AGSI@moreheadstate.edu

  •  Equestrian Teams have Successful Spring

 

The Hunt, Western and Saddle Seat teams at MSU have had a successful round of competitions this spring. Western Seat Team members Cody Tingle of Winchester and Emily Seimer of Brown County, Ohio, both qualified for nationals at an ISHA semi-final competition at the University of Findlay in Findlay, Ohio March 29. To show at the semi-final competition, a rider must place first or second in their class at regionals, which were held in Morehead this year. Hunt Seat Team member Geogia Keogh of Lexington qualified at regionals in the Novice Over Fences class, and competed at zone competitions at Lake Eerie College in Ohio on April 5. The MSU Saddle Seat Team received a high point team award at the ISSRA Championship Show, held April 11 at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington. Team member Meagan Darby of Versailles won high point senior rider, and Katie Roberts of Ohio won high points junior rider of the year. 

  • Staton Named Veterinary Technician of the Year

MSU Veterinary Technology Instructor Amy Staton was named the 2013 Kentucky Veterinary Technician of the Year by the Kentucky Veterinary Technician Association. (KTVA). Staton also recently earned her Doctorate in Educational Leadership Tech from MSU. Staton has earned a total of four degrees from MSU, including an associate degree in veterinary technology in 2003, a bachelor's degree in agricultural science and a master's degree in career technology, agricultural, in 2005.
