Max Ammons assumed the position of Assistant Vice President/Dean of Students at MSU on July 15, 2015. He graduated from North Georgia College (University of North Georgia) with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1991, and began a 21-year career in the military. Dean Ammons served as an aviator and operations career field officer from 1991-2012, and led several organizations before retiring as a lieutenant colonel.
During his military career, Dean Ammons received training in military justice, federal criminal law, investigations, ethical conduct, administrative law/personnel actions, individual rights/due process, international law, claims, and consumer protection; and accrued over 8 years of experience supervising or imposing investigations and disciplinary decisions, including more than 4 years of presiding over non-judicial cases. In 2002, he completed his graduate degree with Troy State University.
Dean Ammons’ background includes more than 10 years of leadership experience in academia in which he served as an instructor, an assistant professor, a professor, a department chair, a program director in academic affairs, and a program director in student affairs.
