Dr. Lori Baruth is Professor of Music, Clarinet at Morehead State University in Morehead, Kentucky, where she joined the faculty in 2007. Dr. Baruth received her Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati (2010), her Master of Music degree from The Ohio State University (2004), and both her Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Music Education degrees from The Ohio State University (1999) as a summa cum laude graduate. Her teachers have included Richie Hawley, Steve Cohen, James Pyne, Dr. Donald McGinnis, and Dr. Kathleen Mulcahy.
Dr. Baruth has performed as principal clarinet with the Huntington Symphony Orchestra, Cave Run Symphony Orchestra, Westerville Symphony Orchestra, the Central Ohio Symphony Orchestra, the Heisey Wind Ensemble, and the Opera Theater and Music Festival of Lucca Orchestra of Lucca, Italy. She was the guest artist at the Penn State University Clarinet Day in 2018 and the Eastern Plains Clarinet Celebration at Eastern New Mexico University in 2017. She was the Yamaha Artist Clarinet Clinician at the Music For All National Festival in 2018 and 2014 in Indianapolis, IN. She was the featured Yamaha Clarinet Artist at the 2016 International Clarinet Association ClarinetFest, and presented a clinic on "Eurhythmics in the Private Studio." She has served as adjudicator for the International Clarinet Association’s Research Competition, as well as the Yamaha Young Performing Artist Competition. Internationally, she has taught at the 2011 Festival Nacional de Música at the Escola de Música e Artes Cênicas da UFG in Goiañia, Brazil. She has performed in the Grandin Vocal Chamber Music Festival, and the MusicX Contemporary Music Festival. She has given recitals and masterclasses at universities in Goiañia and Florianopolis, Brazil.
She is a co-founder of Trifecta!, a trio for clarinet, bassoon, and piano, with Dr. David Oyen (bassoon) and Dr. Chialing Hsieh (piano). She also performs with the Baird Winds woodwind quintet. She has performed as part of Trifecta! at the 2019 Women in Music Festival in Columbus, MS, the International Clarinet Association’s ClarinetFest in 2016 and 2014, the International Double Reed Society Annual Conference in 2017, the ICA Mid-America Clarinet Festival held at The Ohio State University in 2014, the Society of Composers Region III Conference (2016), the Festival of New Music at Marshall University (2018, 2014, 2013), Kentucky Music Teacher's Association conference (2013), and the Kentucky Music Educator’s Association State Conference (2015). In 2012, she was a finalist in the ICA’s Research Competition and her doctoral research was published in The Clarinet, the professional journal of the International Clarinet Association, in March 2014. Trifecta! released its debut album, "Cumulus Accumulation" in March 2015, which can be found on Apple Music and CD Baby.

In 2019, Dr. Baruth co-founded the Solidago Reed Trio with MSU colleagues Dr. Thomas Pappas (oboe) and Dr. David Oyen (bassoon). Solidago has performed at the KMEA annual conference in 2020, the International Double Reed Society conference in 2021, the International Clarinet Association New Music Festival in 2021, and the 2021 New Music Festival at Marshall University. Dr. Baruth is also active as a chamber musician and recitalist with several performances throughout the United States to her credit. She is director of the Morehead State University Clarinet Ensemble, host of the MSU Clarinet Day event, and has coached and adjudicated many clarinetists in Ohio and Kentucky for OMEA, KMEA, and Youth Orchestra programs. Dr. Baruth is an active clinician and performer in high school and middle schools around the Commonwealth. She is a faculty advisor for The MSU chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota, Pi Kappa Lambda, and Phi Kappa Phi.
