Bio

Jose García has almost three decades of professional experience in the participation, management and development of projects, in the field of communications and electronics technologies both terrestrial and space-based. He has been a pioneer in the development of small satellites in Mexico, having participated in the design, construction and testing of several satellites, including UNAMSAT-1 and UNAMSAT-B (UNAM); SAPPHIRE (Stanford AudioPhonic Photographic IR Experiment, Stanford University) and OPAL (Orbiting Picosat Launcher, Stanford University); UNAMSAT-MAI (a joint development between the UNAM with the Moscow Aviation Institute); Qbito (a joint development between the UNAM, The Polytechnic University of Madrid, Spain, and the Engineering National University of Peru for the QB-50 Constellation); CXBN-2 (Cosmic X-Ray Background NanoSat 2, Morehead State University). Mr. García-García participated in the UNAMSAT-1 and UNAMSAT-B launch campaigns, from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome in Russia; UNAMSAT-B is the first and only device made in Mexico that has operated from space. He participated in the preparation and control of the Earth Station for communication with the Russian cosmonauts from the space station "MIR" and the astronauts of the space shuttle "Endeavour". He also conducted the design and construction of various telemetry systems for small sounding rocket developed in the PUIDE (University Space Research and Development Program).

García graduated and served as a faculty member of the Engineering Department at National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). He completed an undergraduate degree in Electrical Mechanical Engineer with emphasis in Electronics, a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, and postgraduate certificates in Management of Technological Projects and Industrial Property and the Teaching of Engineering, all of these at UNAM. He is bilingual in Spanish/English. García has been involved in research projects at the Space Systems Development Laboratory, Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Stanford University and at the Space Science Center, Morehead State University. He is a Senior Fellow of the Mexican Academy of Engineering, and an Individual Associate at the National Institute of Public Administration (INAP).

In 2005, García was one of the first to argue for the creation of the Mexican Space Agency; he was considered as "initiator promoter" of the initiative. He participated in the creation of the Thematic Network of Space Science and Technology CONACYT (National Council of Science and Technology) and the Space University Network UNAM (RUE). He has participated in various forums and conferences about space industry in Mexico and abroad.

García has developed cansats, cubesats, and mobile robots for educational purpose that can be scaled for commercial or research applications. In addition, he has participated in several radio and television programs, and in various newspaper and magazine reports. He maintains a constant scholarly presence through papers and articles in various forums, and maintains a constant professional development by attending forums, seminars and refresher courses in fields of professional interest. Mr. García-García is an enthusiastic person who is passionate about technology and space projects.
