Research Interests: My research focuses on improving patient outcomes by enhancing access to care, improving interventions, and understanding how to better prepare future nurses.
Bio
Chad is a seasoned nurse educator, practitioner, and military veteran whose professional journey reflects a deep dedication to patient care, academic excellence, and healthcare service.
From 1991 to 2001, Chad served as a medic in the Kentucky Army National Guard with the 201st Engineering Battalion. In 1994, he completed Paramedic School at Shawnee State University and began working at AK Steel in Ashland, KY, where he served on the ambulance, fire truck, and confined space rescue until 2000.
In 2001, Chad earned his Associate Degree in Nursing from Morehead State University. He worked at King's Daughters Medical Center in the ICU and home health, later transitioning to the cardiac cath lab recovery unit. While working, he completed his BSN at Morehead State in 2005.
Chad began his teaching career in 2006 at Ashland Community and Technical College, instructing LPN students while earning his Master of Science in Nursing in Nurse Education from Northern Kentucky University in 2010. He joined the faculty at Morehead State University shortly after, where he continues to serve as an Associate Professor of Nursing. He has taught many courses, including acute and chronic medical-surgical nursing, pathophysiology, pharmacology, assessment, research, medical terminology, and practicum courses at the LPN, ADN, BSN, and MSN levels.
In 2015, he completed a post-master’s certificate as a Family Nurse Practitioner and began consulting at Lewis Family Care in 2016. In 2024, he became a licensed medicinal cannabis practitioner. He is pursuing a Doctor of Nursing Practice at Fort Hays State University.
Chad's clinical background includes emergency nursing, critical care, home health, and family practice roles. He served as a nurse with the Kentucky Department of Juvenile Justice from 2011 to 2023 and has consulted as a medical liaison after 2023. His national contributions include working with Kaplan and Board Vitals from 2018 to 2022 and serving as an NCLEX item writer from 2012 to 2015.
A frequent presenter and published contributor, Chad has authored chapters in significant nursing textbooks and served as a peer reviewer for multiple academic journals. He has also held roles on several advisory boards and committees, including the Kentucky League for Nursing and Boyd County High School Health Careers Advisory Board.
His passion for community service is evident in his volunteer work with local schools, youth athletics, and health initiatives.
Chad’s work exemplifies a lifelong commitment to advancing nursing education, supporting future nurses, and improving healthcare outcomes.
