First Sergeant Michael A. Smith is a native of Enterprise, Alabama. He enlisted in the U.S. Army as a 13B, Cannon Crew Member, on 30 August 2000 and attended Basic and Advance Individual Training at Fort Sill, OK.
First Sergeant Smith’s assignments include: Cannoneer, 2/3 Field Artillery, Giessen Germany; Gunner, 2/3 Field Artillery, Giessen Germany; Section Chief, 2nd 320th Field Artillery, Fort Campbell, Kentucky; Gunnery Sergeant 2nd320th Field Artillery, Fort Campbell, Kentucky; Platoon Sergeant, 2nd 320th Field Artillery, Fort Campbell, Kentucky; Senior Small Group Leader, John Kreckel NCO Academy, Fort Campbell, Kentucky; Platoon Sergeant, 2CR Fires Squadron, Vilseck, Germany; First Sergeant 1/10 Field Artillery, Fort Benning, Georgia, FT Belvoir as an S-3 Operations NCOIC, HHC, 1st BN, WTB; First Sergeant at the WTB Community Care Unit at FT Belvoir, VA, First Sergeant in C Btry 2-12 Field Artillery, Ft Carson Colorado and currently a First Sergeant in HHB 2-12 FA Ft Carson. First Sergeant Smith has deployed to Kuwait (1), Iraq (3), Kosovo (1) and Afghanistan (2) in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Freedom’s Sentinel.
First Sergeant Smith’s military and civilian education include: Primary Leadership Development Course, Advanced Leadership Course, Senior Leaders Course, First Sergeants Course, Small Group Instructor Training Course, Total Army Instructor Course, Battle Staff Course, Air Assault Course and Sharp Course. He has an Associates Degree in Business Management from Kaplan University and is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s in Business Administration of Science.

First Sergeant Smith is married to Stephanie and is the father of three daughters; Ciarra (25), Kimberly (21), and Mija (17).
