A graduate of Lawrence County High School, SFC Heather York has been Morehead State University’s ROTC on-campus recruiter for the Kentucky Army National Guard since August 2020. Heather enlisted into the Kentucky Army National Guard as a 68W (Combat Medic Specialist) in 2005, and throughout her career has been assigned to the 201st Engineer Battalion, the 1163rd Area Support Medical Company and most recently the KYARNG Recruiting and Retention Battalion since 2017. Heather also deployed with the 2/238th to Kuwait in 2013-14 under Operation Enduring Freedom as a MEDEVAC/Flight Medic. During this deployment, SFC York was presented the Sikorsky Award for performing lifesaving missions in a UH-60 Blackhawk. SFC York’s other military awards and decorations include Army Accommodation Medal (3), Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal (1), National Defense Service Ribbon (1) and the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal (1). Heather earned a Associates in Applied Science from Gateway Community & Technical College (2016) and is a nationally registered paramedic. Heather is also pursuing a Bachelors of Arts in University Studies at Morehead State University (2022). Heather is a mother of three girls and currently resides in Catlettsburg, Kentucky.
