MSU to host MLK Week
Morehead State University’s Office of Student Activities, Inclusion and Leadership Development has announced a week-long celebration to commemorate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Jan. 16-19.
The commemoration of the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. encompasses a slate of events organized by faculty, staff, and students. Activities include various educational programs to encourage active participation by the campus and nearby community.
2016 MLK Celebration Schedule of Events:
In observance of the Dr. Martin L. King Jr. holiday, Morehead State University will be closed Monday, Jan. 16.
A civil rights activist, Dr. King was a leader in the movement to end racial segregation in the United States. His most famous address was the "I Have A Dream" speech. He was an advocate of non-violent protest and became the youngest man to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. He was assassinated in 1968. A bill was signed in 1983 creating a federal holiday marking the birthday of Dr. King. It was first observed in 1986, although it was not observed in all states until the year 2000.
Offices will reopen and classes will begin on regular schedule at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 17.

Art Exhibit: The Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Athena Room, Camden-Carroll Library. The exhibit will run through March 1. - Wednesday, Jan. 18
MLK Documentary and Discussion of his Legacy 6 p.m. - 112 Radar Hall. Popcorn and drinks provided.
