‘Stitch' exhibition seeking works

Morehead State University’s main gallery of the Claypool-Young Art Building is seeking submissions of textile and fiber artwork for “STITCH: A Regional Contemporary Art Textile Exhibition” to be on display from June 5 – Aug. 30.

This year marks the third installment of the biennial textile and fiber exhibition, dedicated to featuring work created by artists from Kentucky and the surrounding states. Best in Show ($300) and Merit Awards ($100) will be conferred by Nick DeFord, exhibition juror.

Artists working in two to three dimensional textile and fiber media and techniques such as stitching, knitting, weaving, crochet, quilting, felting, surface design, stitched paper, and art to wear, are encouraged to apply by Friday Mach 17. The exhibition is open to artists 18 years and over who reside full time in Kentucky, Ohio, Missouri, Indiana, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Mississippi, Georgia and Illinois.

The exhibition juror, Nick DeFord, is the program director at Arrowmont School for Arts and Crafts.  He received his MFA degree from Arizona State University, and a MS and BFA degrees from the University of Tennessee. He exhibits nationally, with recent exhibitions at the Coastal Carolina University, The Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, University of Mississippi, Lindenwood University and the William King Museum in Virginia. He has had artwork or writing published in Surface Design Journal, Elephant Magazine, Hayden Ferry Review, and Willow Springs.

A closing reception and juror's talk will take place on Wednesday, Aug.30 from 5-7 p.m.
