Winter Choral Showcase concert set for Feb. 28
The annual Winter Choral Showcase Concert will be presented Tuesday, Feb. 28, at 7:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 123 East Main Street in Morehead.
Morehead State University Chorus, Chamber Singers, Concert Choir, Jazz Vocal Ensemble and Black Gospel Ensemble will all will perform.
The event is free and open to the public.
University Chorus will begin the concert with Antonio Vivaldi’s “Gloria” and “Ukuthula” (An African Prayer for Peace) by Andre van der Merwe.
Chamber Singers and Concert Choir will continue the concert with a combined set of pieces. Chamber Singers will perform “O Sing Joyfully” by Adrian Batten and “Le Pont Mirabeau” by Lionel Daunais. Concert Choir will sing “Vela! Asambeni Siyekhaya” by Andre van der Merwe, “Musicians Wrestle Everywhere” by Elliott Carter and “Thou motive of the stars” by Dan Forrest. The two ensembles will combine to present four of five movements from Stephen Chatman’s Due South, a new work commissioned by the MSU School of Music, Theatre and Dance.
The evening will conclude with Vocal Jazz Ensemble and Black Gospel Ensemble. The Vocal Jazz Ensemble will perform “Groovin’ Hard and “With a song in my heart” both arranged by Dave Barduhn. Black Gospel Ensemble will sing “When I Think About the Lord” by James Huey, “Encourage Yourself” by Donald Lawrence and “You’ve Been So Faithful” by Eddie James.
