Presidential candidate to visit campus

(Jay) Morgan, the chief academic officer and vice president for academic affairs and student success for Kentucky’s Council on Postsecondary Education, will visit Morehead State University’s campus Sunday and Monday, March 5 and 6, as a finalist to become the next president of the institution.

In his current position, Dr. Morgan provides leadership for statewide academic affairs, curriculum and programming, academic strategic planning, academic legislative and policy development, admission and enrollment requirements, diversity programming, student success/college readiness initiatives, e-learning, competency-based education, program evaluation and assessment, professional school contract placement, research and innovation, and federal and state grant administration.

He holds a B.S. degree in agricultural science and business, and an M.S. degree in agricultural science from Murray State University. He earned his Ph.D. degree at Oklahoma State University in agricultural education.

Prior to his stint at the CPE, Dr. Morgan served at Murray State University in a number of roles including provost and vice president for academic affairs, associate provost for graduate education and research, graduate program coordinator and professor. He began teaching at Murray State in 1997 in the Hutson School of Agriculture.

He also served as the faculty regent at Murray State from 2007-10 and contributed service to a number of university committees and community organizations.

The schedule will be:

Sunday, March 5

  • 3-5 p.m. - Campus Tour, including tour of President’s Home
  • 5 p.m. - Dinner with Board of Regents at the Center for Health, Education and Research (CHER) 

Monday, March 6

  • 8-9 a.m. - Staff Open Forum, Button Auditorium
  • 9:15-10:30 a.m. - Deans Council (provost, deans and academic assistants vice presidents)
  • 11 a.m.-noon - Candidate available to meet faculty, staff, students who cannot attend forums, Howell-McDowell 201
  • 12:15-1:45 p.m. - Lunch with President’s Cabinet
  • 2-3 p.m. - Student Open Forum, Button Auditorium
  • 3:15-4:45 p.m. - Faculty Open Forum, Button Auditorium
  • 5-6 p.m. - Reception with Community Leaders, CHER 102
  • 6:15 p.m. - President Andrews

MSU’s Board of Regents hopes to select a new president by March 31, with the start date of July 1.

Last spring, current MSU President Wayne D. Andrews announced his intention to retire effective June 30, 2017.
