Ray is recipient of David Cutts Scholarship

The Morehead State University Foundation has announced the establishment of the Dr. David Cutts Endowed Scholarship Fund. Ian Ray of Morehead was selected as the first recipient of the scholarship.

Ray is a 2014 graduate Rowan County Senior High School. He is the son of Mike Ray of Owingsville and Julie Grannis-Carroll of Morehead. He is a double major in physics and math.

“It is an honor to receive the David Cutts Scholarship,” said Ray. “During his tenure at MSU, Dr. Cutts helped out many students and now he continues that through this scholarship.”

The scholarship namesake, Dr. David Cutts, was a professor at Morehead State University from 1968 until his retirement in 2001. He remains actively involved with the MSU Retirees Association and continues to reside in Morehead with his wife Betty.

“I loved my time at Morehead State and made many friends. We fell in love with MSU, the city and the community once we got here in 1968,” said Cutts. “My family wanted to help a student in their efforts of obtaining a college education. With the scholarship, I hope we accomplish just that.”

A scholarship recipient will be selected annually. Recipients must be full-time MSU junior or senior students who are STEM majors, with preference given to physics majors. Recipients must have a minimum grade-point-average of 3.0 or above and preference shall be given to female or minority students.

The scholarship is renewable if the recipient maintains a 3.0 grade-point-average.
