MSPR announces new programming

Morehead State Public Radio (WMKY at 90.3FM) has announced several changes to its broadcast schedule.

Starting July 1, Mountain Stage returns to MSPR, Saturdays from 6 to 8 p.m. For more than 30 years, Mountain Stage with Larry Groce has been the home of live music on public radio. Produced in West Virginia and distributed by NPR, each two-hour episode of Mountain Stage can be heard every week on more than 150 stations across America.

Recorded in front of a live audience, Mountain Stage features performances from seasoned legends and emerging stars in genres ranging from folk, blues, and country, to indie rock, synth pop, world music, alternative and beyond.

Weekend Radio returns to MSPR, Fridays at 11 a.m., beginning June 30. Weekend Radio with Robert Conrad, that "curiously strange and offbeat potpourri of music, wit and convivial companionship" is heard each week in more than 80 outlets. The hour-long show is a skillful mixture of classical music, cross-over selections and comedy bits.

Other changes beginning the weekend of July 1 are:

  • Bluegrass Railroad will air Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Bluegrass Sunday will air Sundays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Folk Sampler will move to Saturdays at 2 p.m.
  • Muddy Bottom Blues will have a repeat airing, Saturdays at 3 p.m.
  • Golden Age of Radio will move to Sundays at 2 p.m.
  • Inside Appalachia will have a repeat airing on Sundays at 4 p.m.
  • Piano Jazz will have a repeat airing on Fridays at 10 p.m.
  • Jazz Happening Now will have a repeat airing on Fridays at 11 p.m.

MSPR broadcasts 24 hours a day and serves more than 20 counties in Kentucky, Ohio and West Virginia. WMKY (90.3 FM) serves as the flagship station for the network, and includes a translator in Inez.
