Long reappointed to MSU Board

Gov. Matt Bevin has appointed Deborah Haydon Long, of Lexington, to the Morehead State University Board of Regents for a second term. Gov. Steve Beshear first appointed her in 2011. Her term expires June 30, 2023.

“We are very pleased with the re-appointment of Debbie to the MSU Board of Regents,” said Joseph A. (Jay) Morgan, MSU president. “She is deeply committed to our University and mission, and her business experience is highly valued among her fellow Board members.”

Long has more than 40 years in the food service industry. Her restaurant, Dudley’s on Short, was recognized by Southern Living magazine as the “Best Restaurant in Kentucky” for 2017.

She is a graduate of Louisville Waggener High School and the University of Kentucky. Following graduation from UK, she spent eight years in Colorado.

In 1981, she moved back to Kentucky and opened Dudley's Restaurant, which she continues to own and operate today. Long has won numerous awards including 2001 Woman Business Owner of the Year; 2009 Smiley Pete Award; 1997 Kentucky Restaurant Association's President Plate Award; 2006 Blue Plate Award - Restaurateur of the Year by Plate Magazine.

Long is a member of the Central Bank Advisory Board, advisory boards of Ashland - The Henry Clay Estate and Sullivan College and the Rural Land Management Board of Fayette County.

MSU’s 11-member governing board is comprised of eight citizens appointed by the governor and three elected representatives of the faculty, staff and students.
