Messer is recipient of the Baldwin Memorial Scholarship

MesserThe Morehead State University Foundation has announced Haley Messer of Grayson is the recipient of the David C. Baldwin Memorial Scholarship.

Messer graduated from East Carter High School. She is the daughter of Edward and Shawna Messer.

Messer was a distinguished scholar at East Carter. She also received the Deanna McDavid Memorial Scholarship and did a work-study at Prichard Elementary.

Her activities included Teen Court, Memorial Day Breakfast for Veterans and Jesus Prom.

The scholarship namesake, David Baldwin, passed away in 2009 and his family established the scholarship to honor his life and commitment to education.

Baldwin graduated from MSU in 1969. He taught business courses at Hitchins High School and East Carter High School for 32 years. During this time, he coached football for 18 years. He was the FBLA advisor, implemented the Raider Bank, and served on the Site Based Council for several years. He retired from teaching in 2001.

“He was always encouraging his students to continue their education at MSU, said Allison Baldwin Caudill.  Our entire family was educated at Morehead State and we are thrilled to be able to help graduates of East Carter continue their education and pursue their dreams.”

Each year, at least one scholarship will be awarded to a member of the graduating class of East Carter High School.  The recipient must have an ACT Score of 21 or above and have financial eligibility as determined by the MSU Office of Enrollment Services.
