Mullins receives the Sarah Blanton Memorial Scholarship

Blanton-E.jpgThe Morehead State University Foundation has announced that Kaitlyn Mullins of Van Lear is the recipient of the Sarah Ashley Blanton Memorial Scholarship.

Mullins graduated from Paintsville High School and is the daughter of Angela Mullins.

She plans to major in education at MSU with the goal of becoming a teacher. She says she is very grateful for the scholarship.

“Being awarded the Sarah Blanton Scholarship is such an honor and I could not be more blessed. This scholarship is going to help me reach my goals and I truly am honored to receive this scholarship,” Mullins wrote.

The scholarship’s namesake, Sarah Ashley Blanton was a 2005 graduate of Paintsville High School and a graduate of MSU with a BBA degree in Marketing. Blanton passed away in 2009. She was the daughter of Daryl E. and Valerie Blanton of Oil Springs. The family established this annual scholarship in her memory.

“Our family is happy to be able to provide assistance for a Paintsville student going on the MSU to pursue their education. We hope this scholarship encourages them to do their best in school and work hard to achieve their goals,” said Valerie Blanton, an MSU alumna who attends the Paintsville High School Awards ceremony annually to present the scholarship.
