Navy veteran enrolls at MSU

zclark.jpgMorehead State University’s Military and Veteran Success Program has announced that Fire Control Technician 2nd Class Zack Clark of Pikeville will attend MSU in the fall. He plans to major in space science. The Bachelor of Science in Space Science at MSU is one of only five space science programs in the nation and MSU’s Program of Distinction.

Clark is the son of Crystal Wright and Russell and Kristi Clark, and is a 2012 graduate of Pike County Central High School. He joined the U.S. Navy right out of high school.

“I just wanted to leave the area for a while,” said Clark. “I had always planned to join the military since I was a little kid.”

Clark will leave the Navy after five years, where he was the fire control system administrator aboard his submarine, tracking underwater targets and deploying ordnance. He will now will turn his attention upwards toward space.

Why Morehead State University?

“MSU seems like a good, balanced place for me. It is close enough to home but also close to Lexington and Huntington. Moreover, I like the farmland. It really gives me a good break from all the steel and concrete that I had to stare at for the past five years.”

“From working deep beneath the seas to possibly working on satellites going into deep space, Clark’s military training in electronics will serve him well in his space science studies. It’s a real success story, “said Sgt. Maj. Dave Litteral, retired U.S. Army and MSU’s director of Military and Veteran Success program.
