Blakeman golf scramble held, scholarship recipients named
The sixth annual J.B. Blakeman golf scramble was held at Eagle Trace Golf Course in Morehead. The event raised more than $9,000. All monies raised go to the J.B. Blakeman scholarship fund.
The scholarship is in memory of Jeffery Scott “J.B.” Blakeman. A graduate of Morehead State University with an industrial technology degree, he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and a Chi Omega sorority big brother. As an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and photographing wildlife. Blakeman loved golfing and was a member of the Eagle Trace Men’s Golf Association and was a proud supporter of Rowan County and Morehead State athletics. He passed away in September 2011 at the age of 52.
Morehead State University has announced that Brandon Record, Travis Tackett and Tyler Thomas are the fall 2017 recipients of the J.B. Blakeman Memorial Scholarship, a $500 scholarship.
Record is an exercise science major from Wooten. He is a peer coach at MSU, a 16th Region KHSAA basketball official and vice president of recruitment for Sigma Phi Epsilon.
Tackett is an English/pre-law major from Virgie. He has attended the Carlson Leadership Academy in Atlanta and the summer planning retreat in Fayetteville, West Virginia. He currently serves as Sigma Phi Epsilon’s chaplain.
Thomas is an accounting major from Mt. Sterling. He is an avid intramural participant, volunteers with the backpack snack program at Helping Hands and currently serves on the executive council of the Interfraternity Council (IFC).
Stacy, a freshmen business management major from Hazel Green, received the New Flyer Award, a $250 scholarship that recognizes both potential and immediate contributions from new students
To be considered for the J.B. Blakeman Memorial Scholarship, students must submit an application and a document listing involvement and contributions to the Sigma Phi Epsilon chapter, campus and community.
