MSPR has successful fundraiser, membership drive
Morehead State Public Radio’s 2017 Fall Fundraiser and Membership Drive was held Oct. 16 through 20.
The first live, on-air fundraiser in five years, listeners were asked to support the flagship station WMKY (90.3FM) with a financial gift to support local programming and operations. During the five-day fundraiser, more than $24,000 was raised from 250 new and renewing members.
“We are extremely pleased with the results of this campaign,” said Paul Hitchcock, MSPR general manager. “The community responded in a huge way and we thank everyone who made this fundraiser and membership drive a success.”
In addition to several phone volunteers and community guests serving as program co-hosts, many businesses and community organizations supported the fundraiser with a challenge gift.
Among the challenge gift businesses were Bakery on Main, City of Morehead, Coffee Tree Books and Fuzzy Duck Coffee Shop, Community Recycling Center, C. Roger Lewis Insurance, Frontier Housing, Gateway Radio Works – WIVY/WKCA, Harold White Lumber, Innovation Launchpad, Law Office of Chris Ring, Maysville Community and Technical College – Rowan Campus, Morehead Theatre Guild, MSU Athletics, Pasquales Pizza and Pasta, People Bank of Kentucky – Flemingsburg, Ruth Hunt Candy Company and St. Claire Healthcare.
“We have a long history of serving this community,” said Hitchcock. “We appreciate the support from the community so we can continue to preserve and promote this region’s cultural heritage with programming that is informative and entertaining.”
MSPR is still accepting financial gifts. Tax-deductible donations may be made online at www.wmky.org. After completing the online gift, members also will be asked to complete a short survey about WMKY’s programming.
MSPR serves more than 20 counties throughout eastern Kentucky, Ohio and West Virginia. MSPR broadcasts 24 hours a day on WMKY at 90.3FM. In addition, MSPR’s website provides regional news, live web streams, archived audio and community events.
