Morehead State University values and honors all the men and women who have served in our Armed Forces. MSU continues to take great pride in recognizing Veterans Day, Friday, Nov. 10, as a celebration to honor America's veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.
The official Veterans Day holiday is Saturday, Nov. 11.
At 11 a.m., a wreath ceremony will be held next to the Veterans Wall near the Rowan County Arts Center on Main Street.
Morehead State and Rowan County Schools will host a free lunch for all current and former members of the military starting at 11:30 a.m. in the Button Drill Room. Entertainment will be provided by the Kentucky Center for Traditional Music.
Veterans Day is an official United States holiday that honors people who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces, also known as veterans. It is a federal holiday that is observed on Nov. 11. It coincides with other holidays such as Armistice Day and Remembrance Day, which are celebrated in other parts of the world and also mark the anniversary of the end of World War I (major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, when the Armistice with Germany went into effect). The United States also originally observed Armistice Day; it then evolved into the current Veterans Day holiday in 1954.
