MSU Regents hold quarterly meeting

During its regularly scheduled quarterly meeting Thursday, Dec. 7, Morehead State University’s Board of Regents approved the naming of the College of Business and Technology and the 2017 fall graduates.

The Fall Commencement ceremony will be held Saturday, Dec. 9, at 10:30 a.m. in the Academic-Athletic Center. President Dr. Jay Morgan will confer degrees for more than 600 graduate and undergraduate students.

The Regents approved the naming of the Elmer R. Smith College of Business and Technology. A native of Martin County and a graduate of Morehead State University, Smith is a successful professional who has served in numerous positions within the educational field. He currently serves as the president of Interactive College of Technology in Atlanta, which specializes in computer-based training.

The 2017 final fall enrollment report was presented. MSU saw an enrollment of 10,584 (down slightly from 10,748 in 2016). The Board also approved Personnel Policy PG-64 (University Tobacco Use Policy) and disposal of real property (Sunny Brook Golf Course, the former Corbie Ellington Post 126 of the American Legion Building and property, and an approximate four-acre lot located in front of the University’s Office of Procurement Services offices and warehouse).

The Board accepted the 2016-17 financial audit report and amended operating budget; accepted the first quarter financial audit report and amended operating budget; and ratified personnel actions and the 2018-2020 Biennial Budget Request.

They also heard reports on the health insurance and benefits plan for 2018, Eagle Outreach and Eagle Scholars (Early College). 

Morgan also presented the Regents with his report.

After the meeting, the Regents were invited to take part in a topping off ceremony at the Adron Doran University Center. The ceremony occurred in recognition of the “topping off” of the building's structure and was attended by MSU officials, regents and the community. Part of the ceremony included signing construction material that will become part of the new facility.

The next scheduled quarterly meeting will be held Thursday, March 29.
