Morehead State winter term up 38 percent

In its three years, Morehead State University’s Winter Session has been very successful.

“It is a wonderful opportunity for students to stay on track for graduation,” said Dr. Steven M. Ralston, provost and vice president for academic services. “The winter term has grown every year. It has been very beneficial for the students, faculty and MSU.”

This year the winter session had an enrollment total of 751 students with 96 courses for 2,820 credit hours. An increase from 544 students with 70 courses for 2,000 hours in 2016.

MSU's Winter Session was held Dec. 11, 2017 through Jan. 8, 2018, for undergraduates and graduate students.

“We doubled enrollment from the first to the second year,” added Ralston. “This year it was up 38 percent. It still has potential of growing more.”

Winter Session offers students the opportunity to take up to six hours in the four weeks during MSU's winter break. All courses are offered online, so students can take a class from the convenience of their home or office.

“The success of the winter session has been a total team effort. We have worked on it every year – to improve it,” Ralston said.

According to Ralston, MSU refines the selection of courses it offers to accommodate students’ needs.

“We are very pleased with the number of students who have participated in the winter sessions,” said Tim Rhodes, assistant vice president for enrollment services. “The University has done a fantastic job in making sure we offer a variety of courses.”
