Boone named interim director of Career Services
Morehead State University’s Division of Student Success has announced that Megan Boone has been named interim director of the Office of Career Services.
Boone succeeds Julia Hawkins.
“We have all the confidence that Megan will do an outstanding job,” said Russ Mast, interim vice president for student success. “Career Services is another office that really aids the students and the community with its outstanding programs and events.”
Boone joined MSU in 2010 in a career counselor/employer relations role. She previously worked in career services at the University of Kentucky and Sullivan University.
Boone has a master's degree in industrial organization psychology from University of North Carolina at Charlotte and a bachelor's degree in psychology from Transylvania University.
She is active in the local community serving on the board of the Morehead-Rowan County Chamber of Commerce and previously served on the Community Advisory Board for Morehead State Public Radio. She is a member of professional associations in the field and is a past president of the Kentucky Association of Colleges and Employers (KACE) and a member of The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) and Kentucky Career Development Association (KCDA).
Boone resides in Rowan county with her husband and two children.
“I am honored to be asked to be interim director,” said Boone. “I have worked closely with Julia and am excited to continue to prepare our students and alumni for the world of work. We have a great staff that really work hard to connect MSU students with employers and the community.”
Career Services helps students be career ready. Staff work with students to craft a resume, practice interviewing and apply to graduate school. Services include helping students choose a major and establish career goals using personality, interest and values inventories, gain relevant experience through internships and dress professionally with the suit bank. One of the major events for Career Services is the upcoming career fair.
The spring fair will be held Tuesday, March 6, in the Laughlin Health Building from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. and gives students and community members the opportunity to connect with more than 90 employers and graduate programs.
The Career Center is located on the ground floor of the Camden-Carroll Library.
