Duff participates in philosophy internship at St. Claire

Duff-M.jpgMorehead State University’s Kirsten Duff, Hebron senior, expects to graduate in May with two areas of concentration, a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology and a Bachelor of  Arts degree in philosophy.

So what does she do in her spare time?

She works in the Behavioral Health Unit at St. Claire Regional Health Care as the third philosophy intern student.

"I was interested in the internship because this type of experience is something that cannot be conveyed well in a classroom type setting,” said Duff, “and learning about the work environment is best done through hands-on experience."

Duff is the first philosophy intern to bring with her a background in psychology, which makes her uniquely suited to work with the behavioral health unit at St. Claire.

"We are excited to have Kirsten on board and look forward to her internship presentation, which is open to both St. Claire staff and the general public, since we expect that she will be exploring some of the ethical dimensions of patient care as a result of her experience,” said Sister Judi Lambert, vice president of mission integration.

Dr. Scott Davison, professor of philosophy, explained that different students bring different strengths to the internship program.

“All philosophy students are trained to think carefully and critically, but each student in the St. Claire Regional Health Care internship program has had a unique experience, based on their background and interests. We are deeply grateful to the staff at St. Claire for providing this opportunity."
