Maness to represent MSU at Mountain Laurel Festival

Maness-M.jpgPorsche DiAnn Maness, Means sophomore, will represent Morehead State University at the 2018 Kentucky Mountain Laurel Festival in Pineville.

The daughter of Tim and Tammy Maness, she is pursuing a degree in business.

Maness is an active member of the Kappa Delta Sorority. Through her opportunities with the Distinguished Young Women Program, the Governor's Scholars Program and Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Program, she has had the opportunity “to refine my public speaking skills and work on my leadership capacity. I have participated in pageants before and had the great honor to represent my county at the state level of the DYW program.”

“It would be a true honor to participate in this time-honored tradition (Kentucky Mountain Laurel Festival) and share with the rest of the state the great things that are happening at Morehead State University,” said Maness.

The Kentucky Mountain Laurel Festival began in 1931 and will celebrate the 88th crowning of the Mountain Laurel Queen on Saturday, May 26, at the Pine Mountain State Resort Park.

Each university in the Commonwealth is invited to send a representative to the annual festival.

In 2003, Jamie Nicole Blair of Oil Springs won the crown as she represented MSU. Other MSU winners included Sharon Lue Goldsberry (1975) and Kelly Michele Holdren (1982).
