MSU to host 2019 KARH conference
At its recent annual conference, the Kentucky Association of Residence Halls (KARH) announced that Morehead State University will serve as the host for their 2019 Annual Conference.
MSU previously hosted KARH’s Annual Conference in 2007, and more recently hosted the Kentucky Association of Housing Officers Annual Conference in 2014.
KARH is a student-run organization that represents student-leaders working in and around college/university housing across the Commonwealth of Kentucky. In addition to sponsoring an annual conference, the organization provides resources for housing student-leaders, including student-organization leadership and resident advisors, to develop their leadership skills and better serve their campus communities.
The organization’s state board of directors is comprised of students who currently serve in leadership positions within student housing at schools across the Commonwealth.
“This is a great chance for our students to showcase what a special place MSU is and educate peers from various campuses about how we provide a residential environment that allows our students to learn, live and thrive. It will be another example of the pride, passion, and spirit that makes up the Eagle Nation,” said Alan Rucker, director of housing and residence education.
John Michael Haky (pictured above), assistant director of student housing, recently completed his 2-year term as the advisor for the organization and will serve as a co-advisor for the conference planning committee. He believes the conference will provide students with the opportunity to apply skills learned in the classroom to a real-world experience.
“A lot goes into planning a state conference and our conference committee, comprised entirely of Morehead State students, will have the chance to put some valuable experience on their resume, including event planning, marketing and promotions, fundraising and sponsorship and even presenting to their peers at a state level,” Haky said.
