SGA officers for 2018-19 announced

Officers have been elected for Morehead State University's Student Government Association (SGA) for the 2018-19 academic year. 

Brandon Bryer has been elected SGA president. He will serve as the student representative on MSU’s Board of Regents for the 2018-19 academic year.

A junior political science major from Scarborough, Maine, Bryer is the son of Rodney and Michelle Bryer. He is a student-athlete on the nationally ranked MSU Rifle Team and is a member of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity, where he has served on the chapter’s executive council as treasurer.

Prior to his term as president, Bryer served as the vice chair of the Public Relations Committee during his freshman year and served as committee chair his sophomore year. Bryer was named the 2015-16 New Congress Member of the Year. During his junior year, Bryer served as the SGA student body vice president and was a member of the vice president for student affairs search committee. He works as a resident advisor in the Office of Student Housing, studies as an undergraduate research fellow and is the current president of the pre-law society. Bryer will be attending law school after graduation.

Also elected as executive officers of SGA were:

  • Executive Vice President Colby Birkes: Birkes is a sophomore political science major, legal studies minor from Winchester. He is the son of Dee and Lora Birkes. Birkes is involved with the Residence Hall Association as president, currently serves on SGA as an at-large representative and is a member of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity where he serves as secretary. He plans to attend law school.
  • Vice President for Administration Katie Smith: Smith is a junior business major from Harlan. She is the daughter of Kim and Jerry Hooten and her biological father, Phil Smith. She has served two consecutive years as the College of Business and Technology representative and currently serves as the vice chair of the Campus Involvement Committee. She works as a resident advisor in the Office of Student Housing and is a member of the Student Alumni Ambassadors and Enactus. She has been involved with numerous committees across campus including the Title IX, Sexual Misconduct Hearing Board and the Conference Planning Committee.
  • Vice President for Finance Santana Spradlin: Spradlin is a junior neuroscience major from Martin. She has been a member of SGA for two years as the College of Science representative and currently serves on the Finance Committee. She is a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority.
  • Vice President for Public Relations Anna Gdovka: Gdovka is a junior sport management major from Lexington. She is the daughter of Frank and Tracey Gdovka. She has served on SGA for two years as an at-large representative. Gdovka was named the October 2017 Congress Member of the Month for her work on the Campus Involvement Committee. She is a member of Delta Zeta sorority.
  • Vice President for Campus Involvement Andrew Sexton: Sexton is a junior psychology and Spanish double major from Morehead. He has served on SGA for two years as an at-large representative and is currently serving as the chair of the Campus Involvement Committee. He was named the 2016-17 Congress Member of the Year as well as the March 2018 Congress Member of the Month for his work as committee chair. Sexton has studied abroad in Merida, Mexico, through the Benjamin A. Gilman scholarship program.
