Dr. Dora Ahmadi receives MAA award

Ahmadi-embed.jpgRetired MSU mathematics Professor Dr. Dora Ahmadi recently received a prestigious award from the Mathematical Association of America (MAA,) a national organization for mathematicians, students and math enthusiasts.

Ahmadi was given the MAA’s Meritorious Service Award on Aug. 3 at the organization’s annual conference, MAA MathFest. She served for several years as the MAA section chair for Kentucky and served as chair of the MAA’s National Committee on Undergraduate Student Activities and Chapters. 

The Meritorious Service Award is given to those who make significant contributions to the national MAA organization or their state section.

Ahmadi taught mathematics at MSU for 22 years and served as chair of the Department of Mathematics and Physics. She began her career at MSU in 1995 and retired in July 2017. During her tenure at MSU, she worked in international students, served on numerous committees, and was a member of the Champion’s Board of the Kentucky Girls STEM Collaborative. She was granted the title professor emeritus upon her retirement.
