Art Faculty Exhibition opens Sept. 12

Faculty-Art-Show-embed.pngFaculty members from Morehead State’s Department of Art and Design will showcase their work at the 2018 Annual MSU Art and Design Faculty Exhibition, Sept. 12-Oct. 5, in the Golding-Yang Gallery in the Claypool-Young Art Building.

The exhibit kicks off with an opening reception on Wednesday, Sept. 12, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the gallery. There will be live music and refreshments will be served. The reception is free and open to the public.

On Wednesday, Sept. 19, a faculty forum will be held from 11 a.m. to noon in the gallery. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss exhibition pieces with the artists themselves.

Jennifer Reis, gallery director and coordinator/instructor of the arts entrepreneurship minor, said the exhibition is a powerful learning opportunity for students.

“Students need the opportunity to see first-hand the creative work resulting from faculty’s creative practice,” Reis said. “It is an important instructional component to the traditional classroom education.  Students get a different or more in-depth perspective on faculty’s artistic point of view. Typically, students viewing the faculty’s work develop a new respect for their instructors and the level of expertise they bring to the classroom.”

Faculty members participating in the exhibition are Eli Hartgrove, James Henson, Toni Hobbs, Dongfeng Li, Elizabeth Mesa-Gaido, Gary Mesa-Gaido, Marina Miller, Helen Otterson, Jennifer A. Reis and Adam Yungbluth.
